That means no worries for the rest of your days. By Pumba and Timone

Homework Club will be in Mr. Stemler’s portable, #2.

Remember students please do not throw rocks.

Recycling this morning, please have juice boxes in separate bag outside your classroom.

There will be a practice for all dancers in the play in the fitness portable at the second bell at lunch.

Just a reminder that there is a track and field meeting for all those students attending the South Surrey Mini Meet today at lunch in the gym.

Please bring your lunch, a pencil and a highlighter.

Teachers – please send any pub night orders to the office right away.  Thanks!

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know -

SAVE THE DATEParent Meeting – Tuesday, May 28th, 7 pm in the Multi-purpose room (yep, it’s not our usual date since the previous 2 Mondays are holidays).  This meeting is for all parents (Cambridge and Goldstone catchments).  Why we need you there if you’re free….we’ll be voting to spend a big chunk of coin on 5 new computers for the school, we’ll be discussing how funds raised this year will be split between the two schools, and we need to nominate a few peeps for our next year’s PAC roles.  Relax - no one gets thrown under the bus.  We’ve all jumped into our roles willingly! And Heidi (me) will look at taking on the PAC President role – just need someone to nominate me at the meeting.  And we’ll need to fill the Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary, 3 School Planning Council members and the DPAC rep roles too.  And we’re just collecting NOMINATIONS this meeting, we’ll vote in June. If you’ve got a child going into Grade 4 or up and you’re at school for morning drop off a couple times a week, you’re an IDEAL candidate for the role!  You’ve been through the Primary grades so you know what they need, you’ve spent a lot of time volunteering with your child’s teachers so you’re used to being at school and in the classrooms and you’ll probably have a lot of questions and concerns about the new Intermediate world your child is in.  If you regularly volunteer to help when you see the HELP WANTED posts – you’re an IDEAL candidate!  If you enjoying sticking around til 9 am for noisy reading, you’re an IDEAL candidate.   If you cringe when you read something in the post or ever wonder why something is being done or not being done – you’re an IDEAL candidate!  If you’ve got Mr. Winton on speeddial or know his email address by heart – you’re an IDEAL candidate!  If you’ve got an orderly mind, methodical way of thinking and have experience dealing with large sums of money and budgets – you’re an IDEAL candidate! If you love reading the fine print and want the inside scoop – take a cruise through this: Cambridge Constitution and Bylaws Think about who you know that may be an IDEAL candidate.  Tell them you think they’d be great – they may just be flattered and give it some thought!  It’s a decision I made when my youngest child was starting Grade 4.  I definitely haven’t regretted the decision and it’s a role I look forward to taking on next year!  Who wants to join me?

Community Invitation - Red Cross Courses offered in our neighbourhood – watch for a post soon!

Au revoir Cambridge and have a nice cloudy day!

Morning Announcements – Actors, Athletes and Mathematicians

15 May

Hey Cambridge!

Please take a moment to listen to our morning announcements.

(brought to you by Griffin and Camden)

Homework Club will be in Mrs. Hounsell’s room, portable #2.

There will be an Act 1, Scene 4 rehearsal at lunch today.  Only Act 1, scene 4 actors should attend.

Sprints and Relays practice today after school on the grass field.

Teachers – please send any pub night ticket forms to the office.

Reminder – Act 1 rehearsal after school today.

Dancers for the play – please go to the fitness portable after the second bell at lunch.

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know-

Pub night feedback – Huge thanks to all the parents who shared some great feedback on our upcoming pub night.  Here’s what we’re hearing (and what you may be thinking too):

  • Thursday nights are crazy busy already, we’d come but are already booked.
  • Wish it was at Big Ridge so we could walk.  Rusty’s is too far away.
  • $20 seems expensive
  • It’s hard to find sitters
  • What exactly are we fundraising for?  What are we using the money to pay for?  It would help if we knew.

Here’s what we’re going to do:

  • Although it’s too late to change the date and venue for this round, we’ll definitely take it into consideration if we host another event in the future.
  • Ticket cost – We were advised by the pub to charge $20 since that’s the norm and they host a lot of fundraisers. Keep in mind that it’s meant to be more about the fun (parents enjoying a night out together) and fundraising than the value of the meal.  Consider the burger and beverage a thank you gift from the PAC for your donation!  The school receives $10 for each ticket sold.  And we’ll definitely look at lowering the cost for future events.
  • I’ve got an email in to Mr. Winton and our Grade 7 teachers to confirm just what costs are involved with the Grade 7 year end plans.  We’ll keep you posted!

That being said, ticket orders are due Thursday.  If you’re free that night, we encourage you to join us!  And a huge thanks to the parents that have already bought their tickets!  We’ll be sending them home with students on Thursday.  NOTE – we need to sell a minimum of 20 more tickets or the event will have to be cancelled and that would be sad.

Want to share your feedback, questions or concerns?  We’d LOVE to hear from you!  Email the PAC!

See ya Cambridge and have a nice cloudy day.

Morning Announcements – Election Day!

14 May

What’s up, Cambridge?

Please take a moment to listen to our morning announcements.

(brought to you by Stephanie, Savannah and Marissa)

Did you know that Chris Hatfill, a Canadian Command Chief, came back from space today?  Wow!

Homework Club will be in Ms. Padam’s room, portable #11.

Today’s library monitors are Amy and Jade.

There will be an Act 1, Scene 3-4 rehearsal at lunch in the fitness portable at lunch today.

There will be a backstage crew meeting at lunch in Mr. Mandin’s room. Please bring your completed permission forms.

Dancers for the play – please go to the fitness portable after the second bell at lunch.

Today is election day Cambridge and our school is a polling station for voters. Remind your parents to vote!

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know -

Parent Pub Night – Okay, so it seems Karaoke may only be on Monday nights BUT Thursday is WING NIGHT so you’ll be able to enjoy cheap wings with your burger and bevy at the pub night on the 23rd! And yes, $20 is a lot to pay for a burger and bevy if you have to factor in a babysitter and a cab cause it’s not close enough to walk.  Perfect opportunity to call a Grade 7 student you know that babysits!  See if they’ll babysit for free that night (or give you a break on their regular rate) so you can support their grad fundraiser!   Want to be put in touch with a Grade 7 babysitter? Or have a Grade 7 that babysits?  Email the PAC and we’ll put you in touch. Or make it a Mom’s Night or a Dad’s Night out!  One of you stay home with the kids, the other heads to the pub. Ticket orders are due this Thursday (pub needs our numbers a week in advance). Need a form?  Print this: CambridgePubNight   Keep in mind that Grade 7 year-end is a ritual all students will enjoy at some point!  Consider supporting this year’s class and know that when your child gets there, your fellow parents will support you too. We’ll have a 50/50 draw that night so you may walk away a bit richer too!  (No silent auction)  How’s that for a sell job? It’ll be a seriously good time, peeps!  Are you in?  What’s it going to take?  Give us your feedback/suggestions! We’d love to hear from you!

Bye Cambridge and have a great day!

Close to 50 students participated in different events like sprints, relays, high jump, triple jump and shot put. All the athletes displayed great spirit by cheering on their teammates. Everyone wearing a Cambridge jersey made their coaches very proud.
