Here’s another special announcement:

Cambridge really does care for our community!

Hi, my name is Declan and I got to help delivery all the toys, food items and clothing that was donated.  There was so much donated that it was amazing. We went to 2 inner city Surrey schools to deliver the items.  The principal and secretaries at the schools told us about how many kids needed our help and how many would have a better Christmas because of our school’s help.

Way to go, Cambridge!  We showed our caring spirit!  Merry Christmas!

Library monitors today are Jenna, Janelle and Mya at 11:20 and Jaden at 1:10.

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know -

HELP NEEDED AFTER SCHOOL TODAY – All the lost and found items need to be put into bags so they can be donated.   It will only take a few minutes and it must get done so the janitors can polish the floors tomorrow.   If you can’t help after school, pop inside BEFORE pick up instead and help bag up some items!!!    Please email cambridgepacyac@shaw.ca if you can help so we can give the secretaries the heads up.

Bye Cambridge and have an awesome day!

HELP WANTED – Friday morning to sort toys!!!!

8 Dec

We need 4-6 parents to help the Grade 6 students sort the TOYS on Friday morning!!!

If you have some time after morning drop off or after noisy reading, please pop by the multi-purpose room!

Once sorted, some toys will be selected specifically for the children in our 4 sponsor families and the Grade 6 students will wrap the gifts.

Rest assured – if you sent a new toy and/or new clothing labelled with a certain age/grade child in mind (from the list), that child will receive your gift.

We’ll also fill the family hampers with a selection of donated food as well.

If you can help, please email cambridgepacyac@shaw.ca or simply pop by the multi purpose room in the morning!

Morning Announcements – Showing we care!

Good Morning Cambridge!

There will be a Grade 7 band assembly at 12:30.  Recess is at 10:30 today so there is no DPA today.  Lunchtime will be early at 11:30 and play time at 11:45.

Today is the first day of our Cambridge Cares Christmas Campaign!  Remember to bring your donations of non-perishable food, used clothing and new unwrapped toys to school all week.  Please have your donations ready in your classroom.  Students will be coming to collect them.

Thank you to everyone who brought in SPCA donations.  The SPCA is no longer in need of the blankets and towels.

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know -

Huge thanks to super volunteer Vayia for her help with the holiday decor on Friday morning.  We were able to string the garlands on the entrance stair rails.  Looks beautiful!

HELP WANTEDAre you Christmas light savvy?  Love a challenge?  Unfortunately, the lights on the last string of garland are out!  It’d be great to get them working.  There’s 2 extra garlands in the PAC kitchen that you can use for parts!!!   Amaze us with your light prowess!

HELP WANTED – Calling all Martha Stewarts!   There’s a box of ribbon and ornaments in the PAC kitchen that need to be hung around the entrance.   Go holiday crazy!

Morning Announcements – 12 days!

1 Dec

Hey Cambridge!

It’s almost Christmas!  It’s about 24 days to Christmas.  But we aren’t going to be here because including today, it’s 12 days to winter break!

Mrs. Lourenco is away today with no replacement.

Library monitors for today are Jenna, Janelle and Mya at 11:20 and Jaden at 1:30.

Here’s an update on House Team points to the end of November:

Green team 548 points

Red team 563 points

Yellow team 566 points

Blue team 608 points

Keep up the school spirit and keep earning those Cambridge Stars!

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know -

Mrs. Lourenco is away.  Translation:  no recorder for Grade 4′s today.   I saw many a Grade 4 proudly toting their hand made recorder cases today eagerly anticipating this morning’s music class.  If your Grade 4 child seems a little off after school…odds are that it’s recorder withdrawl!  They’ll have to wait til Tuesday – an eternity for them!

Subscriber Rewards – Congratulations to Dana!  Dana’s email address was randomly selected as our November Subscriber Rewards winner!  Dana will receive a $10 gift card to Tim Horton’s so she can warm up with a double double as she surfs our parent site!

HELP WANTED FRIDAY MORNING – December is here.  Time to deck the halls with boughs of holly.  Well…more like bedazzle the foyer and stairs with garland and mini lights!   We’ll need a few parents to help decorate on Friday morning.  If you want to help, email us at cambridgepacyac@shaw.ca

Cambridge Cares Christmas Campaign – We’ll be sharing our Cambridge spirit and generosity with several families and organizations this holiday season.  Starting next Monday Dec. 5th, we’ll be collecting non-perishable food and household supplies, used clothing, and new un-wrapped toys.  Several items will go in Christmas Hampers for 6 families, the rest will go to the Food Bank, Clothes on Wheels and the Christmas Bureau.  A notice with the details will be sent home with students on Friday.  The Grade 6 students have been hard at work getting posters ready to put up around the school on Friday.  A few students will be doing a presentation to the school on Monday.  Several others will work with Ms. Burwash’s morning announcement team to add a special Cambridge Cares announcement each day as well.

Thanks Cambridge.  Have a great December 1st!

Morning Announcements – ready to drop everything?

24 Oct

Good Morning Cambridge!

Please stand for O Canada.  You may be seated.

Hey Cambridge - Halloween for Hunger starts today.  Instead of thinking about how much candy you will get, think of all the people who do not have enough food and bring in some canned or boxed items for the food bank.  Also, teachers – when your bin gets full, please call Ms. Burwash’s class and we will come and pick up your food items.

There will be a meeting in Mr. Dewar’s room today at 12:15 for any Grade 6 or 7 girls interested in playing on the Cambridge volleyball teams.

Happy International Library Day.  We will participate in the Drop Everything and Read Challenge at 11:00 – 11:20 am.  Happy reading!

Last Cross Country practice today at DPA.  Be there!  Please let Miss Sveinson know if you won’t go to the meet tomorrow.

Library Monitors for today are Emma & Jessica at 9:05, Maddie and Nadya at 9:50, Anusha at 11:20, and Brianna at 1:55.

PARENTS -

Thanks to the 27 parents that were able to join us on Friday night for our information event with MLA Stephanie Cadieux and school trustee Reni Masi.   We appreciate your questions and concerns.  We’ll get going on our next step which will be to coordinate an information event with Mike McKay, the Superintendent of Schools for Surrey.

Help Wanted – we’ll need help Tuesday, Wed and Thursday morning to collect speaker forms/payments from the classrooms.  Meet at the PAC kitchen in the morning if you can help.

Halloween Volunteers – thanks for the overwhelming response!  We’ll be contacting voluteers by phone this week.  Unfortunately, we may not have a position/opportunity  for everyone that signed up.   That being said, if you see something that needs attention on Friday during the event, please feel free to jump in!

Thanks Cambridge and have a great day!

Free for 15-20 minutes after drop off this morning?

14 Oct

We’d love parents to help copy, count & distribute our Clova Movie Day notices to each classroom.

Once you’ve got enough copies for your child’s class – you’ll just run it to their classroom for distribution.  Then you’re good to go!

Meet at the office just after the bell at 8:45 am if you can help!

THANKS!

Morning Announcements – Run Terry Run…and the Gr 3-7′s too!

17 Sep

I know it’s Saturday!  This is a belated update so you can take action for Monday!!!

Here’s a peek at what was featured during Friday’s morning announcements (and a bit more info you’ll need too):

The Canadian Annual Terry Fox Run  is being held in Cloverdale on Sunday, Sept. 18th!  For more info, visit their website www.terryfox.org .   Our school will be holding our own Terry Fox run on Friday, Sept. 23rd.  We’ll need parent volunteers.  Keep watching the Help Wanted page for more info

Cross Country Races start next week!   Students in Gr 3-7 that want to participate were asked to meet at lunch on Friday, Sept. 15th.  They were sent home with an info sheet, a permission slip and a volunteer driver form.   In case your child(ren) missed it, you’ll find more info and a scanned copy of each of the forms posted on the Try-Outs and Teams page.

Photo Day is Thursday, Sept. 22nd!   Students received photo day flyers on Friday.  You simply select your pose set, choose your background colour and have your child bring the form to photo day.  Photo proofs and an order form will follow in a few weeks.  Send only the form with your child on the 22nd!

Planners went home on Friday!   Each student received a planner, a snap-in ruler and a payment envelope.  Please add $5 to the envelope and return the envelope in the planner pocket to be collected at school.  Thanks!

First Turn-In Day for Entertainment Books and Payments is Monday, Sept. 19thSold the book – bring your turn-in envelope with payment and you’ll receive your prize.  Sold more than 1 book – bring your turn in slip with payment for all books and we’ll give you the extra books you need and your prize(s).  Don’t want the book – return it to us and we’ll cross you off the list.  Still need a book – pick one up on Monday or drop an email to cambridgepacyac@shaw.ca  with your child’s name and grade and we’ll send one home in their backpack.   There will be a second Turn-In Day on Sept. 27th.

*   Did we get the gaming grant this year?  Is the 3rd piece of playground equipment still on the wish list?  Is there girls’ soccer?  Can the Apple Store provide technology training?  Is the ”Digital Beverage Cooler” raffle only a rumour or could I win the ability to keep beverages at a perfect -3 degrees?   Want answers to these questions and have a few of your own that you’d like to add to the open forum?  You’ll want to be at the meeting Monday night – details on the Parents Meetings page!

*  Keep checking the website since some pages are updated regularly…Upcoming Events, Help Wanted, Fundraising, Teams & Try Outs, Business Network, etc.

We made the kids proud!

16 Sep

Huge THANKS to everyone who joined us for the first big party of the year!  It’s safe to say the Family Meet & Greet BBQ was a huge success!

We were prepared for 480 “combos” and honestly expected to sell about half that given the weather and short notice.  We SOLD OUT by 7:15 pm!   OUTSTANDING!

We’ll be donating $130 to the Terry Fox Run through the sale of DQ ice cream sandwiches!   Thanks to everyone who enjoyed one of the half melted treats!   Remember to use those DQ coupons!!!

Thank you to everyone who added a little something to the Cambridge Donation jar – last I looked there was quite a bit in the jar!  Much appreciated!

The Year End Slide Show DVD’s are compliments of the PAC (translated: FREE).  Be sure to pick up a copy for your family at upcoming events.

The Face Painting tent was wildly popular!   Huge thanks to Tammy, Chantale and Shayle for their artistic contribution!  The kids LOVED it…as did several of the face painted parents!!!

We had a huge posse of volunteers that kept everything running smooth!  Huge thanks out to these parents who asked if they could help (they were the one’s sporting the very official name tags last night): Chantale, Shayle, Kristen, Janice, Wendy, Anna, Sophie, Beverley, Leah, Jodie, Lisa, Sandra, Murray, Neelam, and Brad!  And a huge thanks to the behind the scenes parents that helped set up and take down and jumped in when needed:  Lori, Kelly, Tara, Sue, Scott and Debbie.  And a huge thanks to everyone else that jumped in!   And a pat on the back for ourselves (your Exec) Lynda, Tammy, Maria and Heidi  too.  We are absolutely LOVING our role as your Exec this year!  You’re all making it so fun and rewarding!

PARENTS, WE MADE THE KIDS PROUD!

That was a blast!  When’s the next event???” you ask???

THIS MONDAY NIGHT – 7 pm at the school!   BE THERE OR BE SQUARE!   Ok…that takes our “cool factor” down a few notches so we’ll leave it as….see you Monday night!

Weather won’t dampen spirits!

15 Sep

Happy Family BBQ Day Everyone!

Yes, the Family BBQ & Family Meet & Greet is on tonight regardless of the weather!

6-8 pm on the basketball court & in the gym

Here’s a few reminders:

bring a lawnchair and/or blanket so you’ll have some place to sit

*  bring CASH – you can buy tickets for dinner combos for $5 each, DQ ice cream sandwiches for $2, and pop, water and chips will be available for purchase as well.

DQ Fundraiser for Terry Fox!   Thanks to Gary Gill, our local DQ Franchisee for helping us with the $2 Ice Cream Sandwiches you’ll enjoy tonight!  $1 from each sandwich sold will go towards the school’s  Terry Fox Run fundaising efforts.

DVD’s from the year end assembly will be available by donation.  One per family please.  Thanks again to parent, Janice Smith, for putting the amazing slide show together last year!

Teachers have been invited to attend as “family“.  Should they choose to join us, please treat them as such (keep the teacher/classroom questions to yourself)

Entertainment Books will be on site!  Please swing by to pick up the info pack for your family if you have not already done so.    NOTE:  Please keep your “turn-in envelopesat home until an official “turn-in day”.  Our volunteers will not be ready or equipped to accept your payment envelopes.  Besides, your child would miss out on their prize pick up and the envelope may get lost which would mean you’ll be charged for the book.  We definitely want to avoid that!

Set-up crew – meet us at 4:30 on the basketball court

Volunteers – we’ll see you at 5:30 – you’ve got the email with further details

Take down crew – that’s almost everyone!!  If you’re still at the school at 8, why not help take down some tables and bring stuff inside!

Thanks again for all your excitement and help!   Should be a fantastic night and a great way to show our Cambridge Spirit!
