Morning Announcements – Falling

5 Apr

Good Morning Cambridge!

Prepare for your morning announcements!

The quote of the day is:

Life isn’t about falling.  It’s about getting back up every time you fall.

Remember that there is no school tomorrow and Monday due to Good Friday and Easter Monday.  Yeah!

Please have your recycling out this morning.  The team will be around this morning at 9:30.

Library monitors for today are Jaden and Janelle.

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know -

Cambridge Code of Conduct – Yep, we’ve got one.  It’s right there in black and white, the first few pages in each student’s planner.  Who knew?!   Seems a few students are finding themselves in the principal’s office these days for not quite adhering to the code.   They’re quick to answer “I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to do that.”   Ahhh another case of the Spring Break curse!   Everything we knew before spring break seems so very far away after spring break.   Parents, having four days off this weekend presents a golden opportunity to surf through those first few pages and make sure your child(ren) know the code!   Grade 6 and 7 parents – I’m guessing you’ll find yourself eyes wide when you get to page 4 about student cell phone use and texting during school hours.  If your child(ren) take a phone to school make sure you’re both on the same page as far as common sense, courtesy and the code!   Just what is the texting etiquette these days?  Here’s a great little website with the do’s and don’ts:  http://www.textetiquette.com/

Reminder – the Sullivan Easter Egg Hunt is this Sunday! Check out the Not Quite South Surrey site for details (thanks Jen!!!http://www.notquitesouthsurrey.com/3023/sullivan-association-easter-egg-hunt/

Thanks for listening Cambridge and have a Jawsome long weekend!

Morning Announcements – Pigeons, Percy, Basketball, Flags & Walking

3 Feb

Good Morning Cambridge!

PTAMTLTOMA

The winners of our Love of Reading quiz are Meera from Div. 22 and Issac from Div. 7!  Please pick up your prize from the library.  The correct answers were: “Don’t Let the Pigeon Ride the Bus“, and “Percy Jackson and the Olympians“.  Congratulations to everyone who got the correct answer!  Now for our next quiz:

Primaries:  What is the name of the small animal character that is afraid of everything, especially germs?

Intermediates:  Name the popular series that features a boy’s diary.  Hint:  there are several movies about him.

The Girls’ Basketball team played a hard defensive game yesterday!  Congratulations to their 14-11 win!  Keep up the good work, girls!!!

There will be a Boys Basketball game after school today.  The players who played in the first game will be playing in the game today.  If you have questions (or are confused) please be at the meeting at recess in the multipurpose room.  The meeting will be for everyone!

A Grade 7 student-led game will take place during the lunch break today.  A group of grade seven students will be running a game of Capture the Flag on the gravel field.  All Grade 3 students are invited to participate in this game.  Those Grade 3 students interested in playing Capture the Flag should be on the gravel field ready to listen to instructions at 12:15.

Winter Walk to School Day will be held on Wednesday, February 8th.  By choosing to walk to school on Wednesday, you will be promoting daily physical activity and the reduction of car emissions that can harm our environment.  Also, as you enter the school grounds a grade 7 student will give you a slip of paper the colour of your house team to indicate that you walked to school.  Later on, those slips will be collected in the classrooms and turned into Sports Day house team points.  So remember to make the plan to walk to school on Wednesday to promote physical fitness, a clean environment, and Cambridge school spirit!

There will be an STA meeting in the library today at 12:10 for all teachers.

Library Monitors for today are Jenna and Mya.

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know -

Winter Walk to School Day –  This is a nationwide event and ties into our Safe & Active Schools program.   The first step was the travel plan surveys completed by all families.  The next step is a day to celebrate and encourage walking to school.  The City of Surrey is providing Cambridge families with Walk to School brochures that include a map of safe walk to school routes in our neighbourhood.  The brochures will be sent home with students on Monday.  So…

HELP WANTED MONDAY – We’ll need a couple parents to help count out the Walk to School brochures for each classroom.   We’d meet at 11:30 or noon (it will depend on when we receive the brochures).   If you can help, email the PAC at cambridgepacyac@shaw.ca

Cambridge Goes to the Movies next Friday at 10:30 am at the Clova Cinema.  Watch for the “If I Could Pick the Movie” poll appearing on the blog shortly.   We’d love for everyone to take the poll.   Ticket order forms will go out on Monday once we’ve confirmed the movie.  So…

HELP WANTED TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY –  AFTER MORNING DROP OFF – We’ll need a couple parents to pick up movie ticket order forms from each classroom.   If you can help on one of those mornings, please email the PAC at cambridgepacyac@shaw.ca

Thanks Cambridge!

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know -

Invitation for parents from Mr. Winton -

Thanks Cambridge!

Morning Announcements – Have you seen? Are you going?

20 Jan

Good Morning Cambridge!

Please take a moment to listen to our morning announcements.

Ms. Kilbride is away with no replacement.

Teachers, some FSA exams have been rescheduled to Wed, Thurs, Friday 8:45 am next week.  Sorry for any inconvenience. The lab will be open from recess to the end of each day starting today.

There are no library monitors today.

Students, just a reminder – no throwing snow and respect others’ snow structures.  If you see another student throwing snow, remind them of the rules and ask them to stop.

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know….or wonder…

Throwing snow policy… (from up on my soap box this morning)…Okay this one is a bit hard to police.  Just what constitutes throwing snow?  A hard packed snowball?  A handful?  Is it about safety or is it just the fact that a face full of snow, or cold snow down your back makes you feel awful all day (and cranky in class)?  As a parent at school every morning, I see it happen right before my eyes.  Same kids.  Every day.  Throwing snow.  I remind them of the rule every day.  Sadly, when the other students hear me, they just blow it off with a “he/she always does that“.  They’re frustrated too but feel helpless (or hopeless) about stopping the behaviour.     These same kids aren’t throwing rocks or bark mulch…is it just snow that’s the big draw? Makes me wonder…does the rule  (and the reminder each morning in the announcements) mean nothing?  Is it because it’s not enforced or just not important?  Do they understand the why of the rule?  In all honesty,  I’m not sure I do and I’m a parent.   Leave it with me to get clarification and details on the policy.  Snow may be gone by next week but seems like the kids may need more info to make the right choices for the next round.

Ahhh and I can’t help but wonder….does the fact that students see parents bending the rules when it comes to parking policies at the school and in the neighbourhood have anything to do with their choice to bend the snow policy???

ok…off my soap box…

Have you see Chico?

A beloved 1 year old black rag doll cat is missing.  Chico’s family dropped off a flyer at the office this morning (copy below).  He is entirely black, very fluffy, has a long tail and is very large for his age.  Last seen the afternoon of Jan 9th at 146th & 62nd Avenue.  He snuck out without his collar.   Please help them bring him home.   If you’ve seen him, please call 604-781-0793 or 778-840-9490.  No questions asked, just please return him or call if you’ve seen him.

Are you going?

Body Science Parent presentation with the Saleema Noon organization takes place this Monday, January 23rd at 6:30 – 8 pm in the multi-purpose room.  More information and a detailed outline of the presentations can be found on the Guest Speakers page of the blog.  If you plan to attend, please give us a heads up by email to cambridgepacyac@shaw.ca so we can plan seating accordingly.

Thanks Cambridge and have a snowy day!

HUGE THANKS out to Kam for giving us a heads up on a huge glitch on our PAC website.  Some of the PAC email addresses were being re-directed to a gmail account that is no longer in use!  YIKES!  All links have since been corrected to our current Shaw email account.  I was able to pull a handful of emails off the gmail account and will be giving you a call/email shortly!  All is not lost!

FREE TONIGHT?   All parents are asked to join us at the school at 7 pm for our monthly parent’s meeting (babysitting provided for children 3+ years).  Here’s why you’ll want to be there:

*  Hear important updates from Mr. Winton and your PAC Exec about student activities and upcoming events over the next 4 weeks.

*  Open forum – What’s your current hot button topic?  What’s the latest talk/rumours you’re hearing on the playground?    Time to get the chatter off the playground and into the open forum so we can address any concerns and dispel any myths!

See you tonight!
