Good morning Cambridge,

Please take a moment to listen to our morning announcements.

(brought to you by Jhoydeen, Mikayla and Ethan)

Did you know that it is impossible to humm with your nose plugged?  Amazing!

Homework Club will be in Mr. Stemler’s room, portable #2.

Mrs. Clark is away with no replacement.

Musical – There will be an Act 1 practice today after school.

To the Cambridge Community: A report from Mrs. Fraser Tilley -

I am proud to announce that all six students who represented Cambridge yesterday at the District Science Fair did a fabulous job!  From Grade 5, Kylie, Jemma and Mackenzie all won Gold, and from Grade 7, Peyton won Gold, and Amraz and William won Silver.  Way to go Cambridge!!!

The recycling team will be around this morning so please have it out.

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know -

Huge thanks to Mrs. Fraser Tilley for bringing the science fair to the school this year!  And for being there last night to support the students!  Much appreciated!

Spring Musical - You’ve read about all the rehearsals.  Just when do we get to watch the production?  Here’s the latest from one of our Directors, Mr. Mandin:  Performances will take place the first week of June on Wednesday and Thursday.  At this point, 2 evening performances have been scheduled.  If there is a demand, we may look at adding an additional performance.   The PAC Exec would love to sell tickets to these performances.   Stay tuned to the blog and attend the upcoming parent meetings for more info.  I guess the questions for parents are….Will you be attending an evening performance?  Would you pay for tickets?  How many tickets would you want?  Drop us an email so we can get a heads up cambridgepacyac@shaw.ca

Spring Musical Props and Costumes - We’ll be publishing a list of items we’ll need with the hope that parents may already have these items on hand and can provide/donate for use during the performances.   If you can help coordinate the props and costumes, please drop us an email: cambridgepacyac@shaw.ca  Thanks!

See ya later Cambridge!

Morning Announcements – Dream it…

18 Jun

Good Morning Cambridge!

Please stand for O Canada.

Students in the hall – please stop where you are and remain still until the end of the anthem.  Thank you.

Hey Cambridge -

Please take a moment to listen to our morning announcements.

The quote of the day is:

“If you can dream it, you can do it.”

by Walt Disney

Please return the black binder that should be in the drawer where the teacher sign-in book is kept.

Whoever has the projector that is stored in Ms. Siggs office or the one stored in the library, could you please return it to the library immediately.  Thank you.

All library books are now overdue.  Please return them ASAP.

The library monitors for today are Emma, Jessica, Maddie, Nadya, Cassidy and Brianna.

Teachers – on behalf of all of our Dads…thanks for all your help on our Father’s Day cards and gifts!  The Dads really appreciated them!

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know -

Huge congrats going out to two Cambridge Dads, Andre and Dave, who participated in the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer this past weekend!   I’m guessing many more Cambridge families know a family member or friend that participated in the ride as well.  To all of the riders…CONGRATS and THANK YOU!   It was announced that 3,011 participants raised $11.2 million for the BC Cancer Foundation as the fourth annual Ride commenced Saturday morning at Fraser Downs Racetrack & Casino in Surrey. Ride participants cycled over 200 km (through a lot of rain and up a lot of hills), across two routes between Vancouver, B.C. and Seattle, Washington with an overnight camp at Edgewater Park in Mount Vernon, WA. Funds raised support breakthrough research and enhancements to patient care at the BC Cancer Agency. OUTSTANDING!!!

Library book mission - We’ve got to get all those books back!  Time to look under beds, under the piles of clothes on the floors of their closets, under the seats in the car, in the trunk, at the bottoms of backpacks, in the stack of old magazines…everywhere!   If it’s one of our books, it’ll have a Cambridge Elementary stamp on it!   Get it back to the library so we don’t need to spend money replacing books for next year!  We’d much rather use that money to buy MORE books instead of replacing lost ones!

Free tonight?  It’s our last PARENT’S NIGHT OUT for this school year!   Plan to meet in the Multi-purpose room just before 7 pm.   We’d love to see a room FULL of parents showing their support for your brave and mighty PAC Executives!  We’ll need to vote in our nominees for next year’s Exec (don’t worry…the nominees have already accepted the positions so there’s no risk of being thrown under the bus) and we’ll do a wrap up of the year as well.  I’m guessing the evening will have a very celebratory feel!  As parents, we accomplished a lot this year.  We can be very proud!

Feedback and Questions -  We want to hear from you!   Maybe you’ve got a question for Mr. Winton or the PAC or an item you’d like added to tonight’s agenda.   Maybe there’s something you’d like to see us do differently next year?  Maybe we did something you love that you want to see continue?   Maybe you have an amazing idea that we should consider for the website or a meeting or a speaker or an event?  We invite you to share all your feedback – the good, the bad and the ugly!  Drop us an email cambridgepacyac@shaw.ca   Parents – we challenge you to flood our inbox with your emails!   Of course, you’re welcome to tell us in person at the meeting tonight too!

Exclusive parent viewing of the Year End Slide Show - June 28th at 12:30 pm!!!   Huge thanks to parent Janice for all her hard work on the highly anticipated Year End Slide Show!!   The show is so popular, we’ve decided to give ALL parents an opportunity to join us in the gym for a special parent viewing!   It’s the last day of school and the students will be dismissed at 1 pm.  You’re invited to join us at 12:30 in the gym to watch the video before we pick up the kids!!   Wahoo!

Thanks Cambridge and have a great day!

Morning Announcements – Turn on the light!

9 May

Bon jour no Cambridge!   That means good morning in Italian.

(I know they were going for “Buon giorno” I just couldn’t resist typing it as they wrote it in their script.  Ahh the magic of voice only announcements – spelling doesn’t count!  For what it’s worth, they nailed the pronounciation!  And we’ll give them huge points for adding an the International flair this week!)

The quote of the day is:

Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.

by Dumbledore

That quote means even in the worst times you can always find happiness and that there is always two sides to the problem.

Ms. Gerhardt is away with no replacement.

The library monitor for today is Alexis.

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know -

Equipment and bike donations – Huge thanks to parent Julie for contacting the PAC about where to donate a used bike.  With the sunny weather, we’re all getting our bikes out of the garage only to find out that our kids have out-grown them!    Julie and I both remembered reading about it on the blog and after a bit of searching I came across the info we were looking for – the REC for Kids program (it was posted in the recent school newsletter).

The best part – after a quick peek on their website I found out that they collect all types of used sports equipment and bikes!

Their mission is to provide reconditioned sports and recreational equipment to children in need in Cloverdale, Surrey and White Rock.

If you’ve got a used equipment or a bike you no longer need, this could be a great opportunity!  Donations can be arranged either by emailing recforkids@shaw.ca or calling 604-598-0322 . Bikes can be dropped off at the Unwin Park house at 13379 68th Ave.

For more info, visit their website:

Chow Cambridge!  Have a beautiful sunny day!

Save the date – the parent tea is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, June 6th.  More details will follow from the school.

Good news – you don’t have to wait til June to enjoy time with fellow parents over tea!   I’ll brew up a pot on Monday night if you’d like to join me!    Let’s meet in the multi-purpose room at 7.  Do you prefer something fruity or black?  Now doesn’t that sound like a loaded question!

Peace out, Comets and make the sunny day last!

Mrs. Patsicakis is away today with no replacement.

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know -

Huge thanks to the 14 fabulous parents that were able to join us at the parent’s meeting last night.  No one got roped into anything and we had more than 5 parents in attendance.  I’d like to think we proved “they” wrong!    And a huge thanks to Mr. Winton and Ms. Siggs for their grace and poise during the open forum.  It was a bit of a fun, feisty meeting to say the least.  We’ll post the highlight reel shortly.

Class photos – no need to send money or look for an order form.  Each student receives a complimentary class photo.  If the weather is nice, they’ll also take the group photo of the entire school.

Bye Cambridge and try to stay dry!
