Morning Announcements – Mardi Gras!

21 Feb

Good morning Cambridge!

Please take a moment to listen to our morning announcements.

Today is Mardi Gras in New Orleans.  People are enjoying parades and parties until midnight tonight when lent begins.  People also dress in fancy colourful costumes and party in the streets.

Library Monitors today are Ava and Sierra.

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know -

Huge thanks to the 10 fabulous parents that were able to join the PAC Exec at the meeting last night.  The parents may have been few in numbers, but they had a lot of great questions and comments!  Another thanks to Mr. Winton and Ms. Siggs for fielding all those tough questions with honesty and genuine concern.  And thanks to the staff that joined us on behalf of the teachers – Karen Kilbride (LST), Pat Earle (Gr. 2), Blaine Mandin (Gr. 5) and Neovi Patsicakis (LST).  The Highlite Reel (meeting minutes) will be posted on the blog shortly.  It’s a toss up for the quote of the night by Mr. Winton:

“He’s not quite as good looking as I am, but few people are.”

“Damn straight you’re going to jail!”

Reminder to the parent’s that attended….share 2 things you loved about the meeting with 2 people today!   And if you didn’t love anything, be sure to email us with your feedback!  We want to hear the good, the bad and the ugly so we can keep improving!

Parents – we encourage you to go out on a limb and introduce yourself to someone new today.  Help build our community.   You’ve probably been standing side by side at drop off and pick up for months now.  Why not go beyond knowing each other as so and so’s mom/dad….tell them your name!   Great opening line….”did you read the blog today?”

Bye Cambridge and have a good rainy day!

Morning Announcements – Your life’s work

17 Feb

Good Morning Cambridge!

Please take a moment to listen to our morning announcements.

The quote of the day is:

“Whatever your life’s work, do it well.”

by Martin Luther King Jr.

This means whatever you do in life, do your best and you will succeed.

The girls basketball team played a hard defensive game yesterday at playday.  Throughout the season they have shown an overwhelming amount of growth and passion for the game.  They truly need to be commended for all the success they achieved this season!  Congratulations girls!  Hope to see you next year!

Library monitors for today are Jenna and Mya.

Parents – here’s what else you’ll want to know -

Feeling inspired to join us at the Parent’s Meeting on Monday night?  Curious about the new education plan?  Maybe you have a question for the open forum about red rover or cops & robbers??    Your PAC Exec will be there and we’d love to see a room full of parents too.   Meeting other parents is a great way to build our community and it shows the students that it’s important to be involved and informed.  You’ll find details on the Parent’s Meeting page of our website.

Can’t attend the meeting but have a question or concern or something to share?  No problem – just drop an email to cambridgepacyac@shaw.ca.  We’d be happy to add it to the open forum on your behalf.  We’ll post the information/results in the meeting Highlite Reel that’s published on Tuesday.

Planning to skip the meeting?  You’ve gotta know we’re curious why!   What would it take to make you want to attend?  Take the anonymous parents poll!

Thanks Cambridge and have a great Friday!

Our second Parent’s Meeting of the school year was last night.  Another WOW!  This meeting was even better attended than the first!  Could be a new record!

Huge thank you to the 37 parents who were able to join us last night!

Thanks to Mr. Winton as well!  We truly appreciate your feedback, your answers to the many difficult questions we threw your way this round, and for your fabulous tour of the school!   We had you jumping from Brazilian dancers to poking the bear, to anaphalaxsis, toilets and lice!  Tough crowd!  You handled it well!

I know many of you would have loved to be there if you could.  Good news…we’ve posted the Highlite Reel on the ”Meeting Update” page of our blog (look on right side under Pages) so you can keep up to date!   Once again, only thing missing is the laughter and the cookies!  You’re on your own for that.

Parents, we asked you to join us at the meeting…37 of you came!

We asked you to consider the hot topics on the playground and to bring your questions…you brought a good 25 questions on some hot topics indeed!

You’ll remember that one of the lines in our PAC mission reads:

The PAC shall encourage parents to participate on meaningful educational activities and decision making , to strengthen the role of families in education, schooling and to foster meaningful parent participation.

After last night’s meeting, I’d say MISSION ACCOMPLISHED….for this month any ways!

Thanks for your continued support!

Hey Cambridge!

Please stand for O Canada.

The quote of the day is:

“It doesn’t matter how old you are to change the world.”

by Craig Kielburger who founded Free the Children

Looking for something to do on the Pro-D day this Friday?  Join us at a private showing at the Clova Cinema!  Ticket notices were sent home on Friday.  Tickets are limited so be sure to fill in the form and send back to the school asap.

Parents – we’ll be showing Dolphin Tale.   If you need the form, download and print the form below:

Cambridge Movies – Oct 21

HUGE THANKS out to Debbie for her help collecting order forms and issuing tickets today!

Library Monitors – meeting today at 12:15 in the library.

Cross Country – practice on the grass field at 10:30 this morning.

HUGE THANKS out to Kristan for her help with the Grade 1 Reading Resouces project this morning!    We were able to get through Step 1.  We’ll need a couple parent helpers later this week to finish the project.  If you are free in the morning and want to help, please drop an email to cambridgepacyac@shaw.ca

HUGE THANKS out to Kam for giving us a heads up on a huge glitch on our PAC website.  Some of the PAC email addresses were being re-directed to a gmail account that is no longer in use!  YIKES!  All links have since been corrected to our current Shaw email account.  I was able to pull a handful of emails off the gmail account and will be giving you a call/email shortly!  All is not lost!

FREE TONIGHT?   All parents are asked to join us at the school at 7 pm for our monthly parent’s meeting (babysitting provided for children 3+ years).  Here’s why you’ll want to be there:

*  Hear important updates from Mr. Winton and your PAC Exec about student activities and upcoming events over the next 4 weeks.

*  Open forum – What’s your current hot button topic?  What’s the latest talk/rumours you’re hearing on the playground?    Time to get the chatter off the playground and into the open forum so we can address any concerns and dispel any myths!

*  Tour the school – great chance to see just what it looks like inside the portables and the computer lab!

See you tonight!

The first Parent’s Meeting of the school year was last night.  And WOW I think I speak for everyone when I say it was a great meeting indeed!  Huge thank you to the 30 parents who were able to join us last night. Thanks to Mr. Winton & Ms. Siggs for your involvement as well.  Mr. Winton, we truly appreciate your honest answers to the tough questions we threw your way!

I know many of you would have loved to be there if you could.  Good news…we’ve posted the Meeting Update and a Highlite Reel on the “Meeting Update” page of our blog so you can keep up to date!   Only thing missing is the laughter and the cookies!  You’re on your own for that.

Bottom line, it’s clear we all share the same vision and goal for our school and our community!   Mr. Winton said it best:

“The size of the school can quickly become the negative story of our school.  Let’s look at what we do provide, we’re trying to maintain a small school atmosphere, we’ve got a great school with great parents - THAT should be our story!”
